King’s Day erupted in Meppel with the traditional carillon playing and the aubade on Kerkplein. Oranje Boven, Het Land van Maas en Waal, the Drenthe Lied and De Ode aan de Meppeler Toren and finally the Wilhelmus sounded through the city center.
After that, a vibrant Oranjefeest broke loose in the city center. A free market for children, a bicycle trial, street theater, acrogym, the Theater of the Dream and an open talent stage. The sun shone bravely and warmed the throng of people.
At the end of the morning De Bazuin gave a concert on the Prinsenplein. The hospitality industry continued this program on the squares in the afternoon with Amsterdam artists on the Prinsenplein and the Band Jools with Willems Spans on the Wheem. The visitors on Kerkplein received musical entertainment from DJ Roelof Hof and Friends. De BTW Band played on the Groenmarkt.
The AlexAnders Festival was held in the old-fashioned way again on the Stoombootkade and Bleekerseiland.
