King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix will be present at the award ceremony on Thursday 21 April 2022. Four Freedoms Awards in the New Church in Middelburg. Prime Minister Mark Rutte presents the International Four Freedoms Award to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the democratic movement in Belarus.

The Four Freedoms Awards are awarded each year to men, women and organizations whose efforts and achievements demonstrate a deep commitment to the ideals President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his historic Four Freedoms speech proclaimed in 1941.

The Four Freedoms Awards 2022 will go to the following individuals and organizations:

  • The Freedom of Speech award goes to the Vietnamese singer-songwriter and free speech fighter Mai Khoi Do Nguyen.
  • The award for Freedom of Religion goes to the Indonesian founder and president of the Mosintuwu Institute Lian Gogali.
  • The award for the Freedom from Defect goes to Kenyan human rights activist Nice Nailantei Leng’ete.
  • The Freedom From Fear award goes to the Turkish non-governmental LGBTI+ organization, ÜniKuir. The award will be presented to the founders of ÜniKuir: Melike Balkan and Özgür Gür.
