PWho would have expected George and Amal Clooney to arrive at the Theater Royal Drury Lane in London last night for the Prince’s Trust Awards. Organized every year to reward young people who have particularly distinguished themselves despite difficult beginnings, the event is one of the initiatives that are most dear to King Charles, who founded the charity in 1976. And the invitation to the Clooneys, who have long shown themselves on Harry and Meghan’s side in the Windsor feud, surprised everyone.

King Charles, the Clooney’s new friend, beats Harry and Meghan
From the moment George and Amal appeared as guests at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, it was clear that the Clooneys had decided to reserve their loyalty to the Sussexes. Enough to defend them several times publicly. But since the Dukes of moved to California, their friendship with the actor and his wife, activist and lawyer of cry, seems to be over.
The Clooneys and the Sussexes, a ghost friendship
The friendship between the two couples has often been questioned. They are no longer dating, sources in Hollywood say. But did they really ever date? There are no photos that show all four of them together. George himself has revealed in the past that he received the invitation to the Sussex wedding even though he didn’t know them personally. And since then, apart from Meghan’s baby shower for Archie, in 2019, in New York (it was Amal who gave Markle a ride on her personal jet), it appears they have never met again.

George and Amal have long avoided speaking of gods in public Sussex, now too controversial for the many stars who at the beginning of Megxit had said they were on their side. And last year, at the New York launch of the Albie Awards, the Clooneys’ humanitarian award, Harry and Meghan – who had already concluded the period of mourning for the loss of Queen Elizabeth – were not present. Everyone was there, from Donatella Versace to Meryl Streep and Dua Lipa, but not even a shadow of the Sussexes.
George and Amal, important allies for King Charles
The Clooneys reside for part of the year in a luxurious country residence, a short distance from the British capital and very close to Windsor. It will then be easy to reconnect to the man of the moment, King Charles – newly Crowned – and therefore to the rest of the Royal Family. Will they be invited to dinner at court?
Of course their support could prove very useful for the charitable initiatives of the monarch and Queen Camilla. Who from Tom Cruise and Pierce Brosnan to Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, friends in Hollywood are already collecting many.
