King Charles has lived his whole life for one goal

King Charles became Britain’s oldest monarch to be crowned. Charles has made his big life choices with the crown in mind.

Britain’s new King Charles, 73, has previously revealed that if he didn’t become king, he would like to be a farmer. However, Charles has lived in the shadow of the crown since he was a child and made his choices at the turning points of his life with the crown in mind.

When he was three, his mother Elizabeth became queen. It affected the course of Charles’s life in every way.

Like the British upper class, Charles studied at reputable boarding schools. Growing up, he studied archeology, anthropology and history at Trinity College. In addition to the air force, the prince received military training in the navy.

Young Charles had enough girlfriends, including Lady Sarah Spencerwhose little sister was named Diana.

One of the girlfriends was Camilla Shand, whom the prince met as early as 1971. Down-to-earth and interested in the same things, Camilla attracted Charles, who however was not ready to commit. The romance dried up and Camilla got married in 1973 by Andrew Parker Bowles with. However, Camilla, who moved with her husband in royal circles, always reappeared in the prince’s life. Charles also promised to be the godfather of the couple’s sons.

Proposal

As Charles passed his thirties, the pressure to get married increased – where could one find a well-rounded unmarried spouse candidate?

In the summer of 1980, Charles met Diana a few times, whom he already knew through her sister Sarah. Diana fell in love with the prince, and Charles was charmed by the child-loving and warm-hearted young woman.

The following spring and winter, Charles revealed to his friends that he was considering proposing to Diana.

– I want to make the right decision for my country and my family, he allegedly said.

At the same time, he was allegedly terrified that he was about to commit to something he would regret.

On February 6, Charles invited Diana to Windsor Castle. Diana answered the proposal in the affirmative. It is known that they had only met a little more than ten times before the courtship. After the proposal, Charles did not call his bride for two weeks.

The proposal was announced on February 24. In July 1981, a fairytale wedding was watched around the world. Underneath the surface, however, something was bubbling.

Diana had realized even before the wedding that her spouse had greater feelings for Camilla.

Diana and Charles had no common hobbies, interests, unifying life experiences, and no friends in common.

Charles had been preparing for his future role all his life. Suddenly there was a woman by his side who fascinated everyone. The crown prince remained in a supporting role when the whole world’s attention and interest was focused on Diana.

Although the marriage was ultimately a sacrifice on both sides, it produced an heir to the crown. Prince William was born in June 1982 and Harry in autumn 1984.

Camilla-gate and Diana’s death

The British court was in the vortex of scandals. The last staple of Charles and Diana’s union was Camillagate, i.e. the leaked, humiliating tapes of phone conversations between Charles and Camilla.

In December 1992, Diana and Charles moved into a separate apartment. In 1994, Charles admitted his relationship with Camilla in a television interview, but insisted that he had not started it before his own marriage was doomed.

The final separation came in August 1996. Just a year after that, Diana died in a car accident. Charles became a single father of two teenage sons.

Was waiting for his Camilla

Diana’s death brought back to people’s minds the tragic marriage and, above all, Charles and Camilla’s influence on it.

Charles couldn’t even consider getting married, even though Camilla was free after their divorce in 1995.

Charles had to wait. In 1998, he introduced Camilla to his sons. The following year, he and Camilla made their first public appearance together at Camilla’s sister’s birthday party.

However, Queen Elizabeth found it difficult to accept the relationship. For example, he did not attend Charles’ fiftieth party because Camilla was present.

It wasn’t until April 2005 that Charles finally got his Camilla in a civil ceremony at Windsor Town Hall, followed by a church ceremony at Windsor Castle Chapel.

It has been speculated how many sorrows would have been avoided if Charles had understood and been able to marry Camilla already in the 1970s.

Power changed

When Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday at the age of 96, Prince Charles became Britain’s oldest monarch to be crowned. Power changed in Britain for the first time in seven decades.

At the opening of the British Parliament in May, Charles visited the Queen and gave a speech on her behalf. The Queen reluctantly had to cancel her participation due to mobility issues. It was the first time since 1963 that the Queen missed the opening of Parliament. Elisabet had missed the opening only twice. Both times she was pregnant.

However, the Queen’s crown was there, next to Charles. Charles looked at the crown with emotion before beginning his speech.

Now begins a time in Britain for which the new king has been preparing all his life.
