King Charles has received the ceremonial title of Colonel-in-chief of the Corps of Royal Engineers. The same title was previously held by Queen Elizabeth.

Buckingham Palace announced the matter on Tuesday, March 28. The title has been held in the royal family since 1904, when the king Edward VII was appointed the first leader of the pioneer corps.

The troops are also known as Sappers. They provide war planning and technical support to the British armed forces and their allies. Lieutenant General Sir Tyrone Urch issued a public statement.

– I am really happy that his majesty has agreed to be our colonel. This is a great honor and continues a long tradition started by Kings Edward VII in 1904.

Before Charles, the traditional title belonged to Queen Elizabeth, who died in September. MEGA, AOP

Queen Elizabeth died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle. Charles was proclaimed king on Saturday, September 10, at St. James’s Palace in London. The United Kingdom cannot exist without a monarch, so the title passes immediately from the previous monarch to the next.
