Kindergarten classes in Rumbeke sealed after anonymous tip about asbestos danger
On Friday afternoon, the Welfare at Work Service will evacuate and seal the three kindergarten classes in SBSO Sterrebos in Rumbeke. The children must leave the classroom and are not allowed back in.
The reason is an anonymous tip that explains that the removal of asbestos-containing plates in the ceiling were not removed correctly. That happened during the spring break. “I can confirm that the classes are indeed sealed and the toddlers can go to other classes next week,” says Diter Den Baes, director of school group 26.
Sample examination
“I inquired again with the people who removed the plates. They did indeed contain tenacious asbestos. We are very committed to removing and replacing such plates,” explains the director. “At the moment I have no reason to doubt that the deletion was not done properly.”
The director is now awaiting the sample examination. That result should be there by the end of next week.
