Kind en Gezin withdraws childminder permit: investigation into possible abuses

That confirms Kind en Gezin spokeswoman Nele Wouters. The childminder from Veurne was on the list of 54 crèches that have been re-evaluated in recent weeks. This was the case because an incident had already been reported in 2020, in which Kind en Gezin had taken an injured party. However, the investigation at the time did not clarify where the child had suffered the injury.

A little boy ended up in hospital a few weeks ago after being violently shaken. An investigation is underway against unknown persons, so it is not clear whether the child was injured by the childminder or elsewhere. Also in March 2020, according to the newspapers, a baby, cared for by the same childminder, ended up in hospital.

Not first incident

Kind en Gezin canceled the childminder’s permit on Tuesday as a precaution “in case of urgent necessity”. This means that the woman is no longer allowed to take care of children. The organizing non-profit organization Veurne Free Daycare Centers had already terminated the collaboration with the childminder, says Wouters.

The Flemish government agency is also examining whether further agreements need to be made with the local service for childminders. The non-profit organization had informed Kind en Gezin late. When asked whether anything has come to light during the re-evaluation in Veurne or what the re-evaluation exactly entailed, the spokeswoman for Kind en Gezin refers to an inquiry committee in the Flemish Parliament next Friday.
