Kimmich is missing from national team training

The German national soccer team is currently preparing for the upcoming international matches against the USA and Mexico. Joshua Kimmich from FC Bayern had to miss training on Thursday (local time).

Kimmich was absent from the session in Foxborough due to a slight cold. The 28-year-old instead followed the training in a thick jacket.

A use in the test in Hartford against the USA (Saturday at 9 p.m. LIVE on RTL and on RTL+) could therefore be questionable. Next Wednesday (CET) the national team will face Mexico.

Important test matches for the national team

The two games are the first under the direction of the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The 36-year-old has succeeded Hansi Flick at the DFB, who was released in September after a bitter 4-1 defeat against Japan.

Nagelsmann doesn’t have much time left until the home European Championship. “I’m extremely happy to be working with a team again,” said the new national coach recently on the sidelines of the trip to the USA: “I’ve been on this bike since I was 14, I’ve actually never had this situation in the past few months.”

Nagelsmann worked for FC Bayern until March. The trainer also knows Kimmich from his time in Munich. The duo is said to have a good relationship.

Kimmich is likely to play a key role

Kimmich is likely to play a key role in the national team under Nagelsmann. Captain Ilkay Gündogan could serve as a partner in the center of midfield. Leon Goretzka and Robert Andrich are other options for this position.

The national team wants to build on its 2-1 friendly win against vice world champions France in September against the USA and Mexico. At that time, interim solution Rudi Völler was on the sidelines.
