Kim Jones and US streetwear label present capsule in Egypt

Streetwear meets luxury: Dior Men is launching a capsule collection with the US streetwear label Denim-Tears. Behind the brand is Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory.

Dubbed “DiorTears,” the capsule will be unveiled at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo on December 2, a day ahead of Dior’s Pre-Fall 2023 menswear collection, which is set to be unveiled in front of the Pyramids of Giza on Saturday. “This line celebrates the inventiveness of the House of Dior and the strength of its creative dialogues,” the French fashion house said in a statement on Friday.

The collaboration, described by Dior as “unprecedented,” is a tribute to Black artists and creatives, Tremaine Emory said in a post on his Instagram profile. As inspiration behind the collection, the designer names the writer James Baldwin and the musician Miles Davis, who were celebrated despite racial segregation in the 1950s.

The collaboration is by no means the first foray into streetwear for Dior Men’s creative director Kim Jones. In May, Jones invited label ERL’s designer Eli Russell Linnetz to design a Dior capsule, and previously he’s collaborated with the likes of Matthew Williams’ brand Alyx, singer Travis Scott and Shawn Stussy, founder of skate brand Stüssy. Even before his time at Dior, when he was creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear, it was Jones who brought Supreme to the French luxury house’s catwalk.

Emory, who is also part of streetwear label No Vacancy Inn in addition to his creative director position at Supreme and his role as a designer at Denim Tears, also has an extensive list of collaborations to his name. Denim Tears only collaborated with the shoe brand Ugg in February. A few weeks ago, NoVacancy Inn also announced a collaboration with the Italian fashion brand Marni.
