Four years after the release of “No Home Record,” Kim Gordon is back. The ex-Sonic Youth singer’s next record is in the starting blocks. “The Collective” will be released on March 8th and will contain eleven songs. As a foretaste, their single “Bye Bye” is now available in advance including a music video.
The album was “made with love and fun”
The new album was created in collaboration with producers Justin Raisen (including Lil Yachty) and Anthony Paul Lopez (already worked on “No Home Record”) and is intended to be a combination of dub and trap sounds paired with intuitive word collages and mantras from Gordon offer, which critically deals with communication, commercial sublimation and sensory overload – according to the description in the press release for the work.
On Kim Gordon’s website, artist Josephine Pryde summed up the mood of The Collective in a kind of lyrical story: “I would say that Kim Gordon is reflecting on what thinking is like now. Conceptual artists do this, have done that.” Here you can find her post in the original.
Music video for “Bye Bye”:
