Kilos of illegal fireworks found in the home of a family with small children

On Saturday afternoon, the police found more than 100 kilograms of fireworks in a house in Werkendam during a house search. The vast majority of those fireworks fall into the heaviest category and are illegal. A family with two small children lives in the house where the fireworks were stored.

The police received an anonymous tip that heavy illegal fireworks would be stored in the house in Werkendam. On Saturday, officers therefore carried out a house search.

They saw boxes piled up in the living room and bedroom. It contained 75 kilos of fireworks of the heaviest category (1.1) and 28 kilos of a less heavy category (1.4).

The house is in the middle of a residential area, so according to the police was an immediate danger to the environment. The residents of 45 and 51 years old will receive an official report. The fireworks have been confiscated and destroyed.
