The arrest at the Grammys is said to have occurred due to an “overzealous” security guard.
Actually, the rapper Killer Mike should have been one of the absolute winners of the event at the 2024 Grammys. He received an award three times on February 4th – in the categories “Best Rap Performance”, “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Album”. However, the evening took an unexpected turn when the 48-year-old was taken away in handcuffs on site. Killer Mike came forward with a statement shortly after the incident and clarified what he thought really happened. Now he has expanded on the situation a little further in an interview.
But again for understanding:
The musician told Billboard that the situation at the arena was a misunderstanding. He was in another area of the Los Angeles venue for a while and was stopped by staff when he tried to return to the specially marked security area. Security wanted to see his access card, which led to an argument and the hip-hop artist was taken away in handcuffs. However, he didn’t get really specific at that point.
“Confident that I will ultimately be cleared of any wrongdoing.”
According to NME, Los Angeles police said following the arrest that the rapper was taken into custody in connection with a physical altercation inside the venue. The complaint then followed for bodily harm. In his statement, the 48-year-old said that he wanted to be “cleared of any wrongdoing.”
“Overzealous” security?
During an appearance on “The View” on February 12, Killer Mike spoke again about the events and said that the backstage area was reportedly crowded after the awards ceremony. Combined with exuberant Grammy winners and an “overzealous” security employee, the incident and arrest occurred.

Again, he didn’t go into details, but explained: “All my heroes were in handcuffs – Malcolm, Martin, Mandela, Medgar. I walked out with the same dignity and respect that I walked in with and I would ask people to just take that to heart.”
