The clothing retailer Kik Textiles and Non-Food GmbH is expanding its international presence. On Monday, the company based in Bönen, North Rhine-Westphalia, announced the opening of its first branches in Portugal and Spain. According to the company, the discounter, which is part of the Tengelmann Group, will now be represented in 13 foreign markets.

The first store in Portugal was opened in Pedroso last Saturday. “Further branches in the greater Porto area, in the south of the capital Lisbon and in the Algarve will follow,” said Kik. In Spain, the premiere will take place next Thursday with the opening of a store in Seville. The retailer said it plans to open 15 more stores in the country, with a focus on the region of Andalusia and the capital, Madrid. In addition, in the future there will also be branches “in the north and on the Mediterranean coast” of Spain, the company said.

Fernando Strubing Gomes, Kik’s Managing Director for Portugal and Spain, explained the recent market entries: “Kik is a fast-growing retail company. Expansion into new markets is part of our growth strategy, with which Kik has successfully become one of the leading clothing companies in Germany in recent years,” he said in a statement. “Our goal is: Kik in every wardrobe. With new branches in Spain and Portugal, we have come a step closer to this goal.”
