As Jack Bauer, he routinely saved his country in 24 hours. Kiefer Sutherland did not manage such a feat with his third album. When the Canadian with a nasally hoarse sound raves about the skyline of his home Toronto in the title track, unpacks a fine twang in “Going Down” or rocks his boots in “So Full Of Love”: You can hear his great passion. Chris Lord-Alge’s production also has precision and swing and, despite a lot of lap steel, keeps enough distance from pathos. But the songs are unfortunately only mediocre despite all the noble staging. They lack the extra that makes Heartland classics stand out from Petty or Springsteen. And in the end, the actor on the microphone just can’t keep up either.
