Kids Activities Adapt: ”Put your head in a tub of water and play football again”

It is sweltering hot in the region, so West Friesland sought out the coolness en masse today. Many summer activities for children continued as usual and with the necessary water that is perfectly doable, they noticed at the Enkhuizer hut village and at a football camp in Spanbroek. “You just have to drink enough and sit in the shade.”

“And football of course!”, the young player adds. Because despite the warm weather, the young footballers were still on the move en masse. “With a lot of sweating,” says another participant. “But it is manageable. Every now and then you have to sit with your head in a bowl of water.”

At the Enkhuizer hut village they are not too concerned about the heat. A large part of the activities takes place in the shade of the trees in the Wilhelminaplantsoen. Because even more heat is predicted tomorrow, the program will be slightly adjusted. “We have removed all active games,” says organizer Dirk Jan Post.

Furthermore, enough water is taken from the stable for the necessary cooling. “We have enough jerry cans with water. Tomorrow we will put down some bins with sponges for the children to romp with. And maybe we’ll put down a sprinkler.”

If you haven’t found enough refreshment during the day, you can visit the many fire stations in West Friesland. Several fire stations are opening the fire hydrants today and tomorrow for a water festival. In Westwoud, the fire brigade is on the road both evenings. “A win-win situation”, says post commander Richard Schouten. Tomorrow evening the posts in Andijk, Opmeer and Nibbixwoud will provide the necessary refreshment.

“We introduce the youth to what we do at the fire service and for ourselves it is immediately a practice evening. We also hope to delight the children with some cooling in the warm weather.”

Youth in Grootebroek also enjoyed refreshing extinguishing water on Monday evening. For those who want to take a dip elsewhere in the region, do we have any suggestions?.
