Kickboxing, the lawyer Briamonte is a world Master

Great success for The Night of King and Punch on Saturday evening in the ring of the Teatro Principe in Milan

The Turin lawyer Michele Briamonte, managing partner of the Grande Stevens law firm and president of the Consortium of the Royal Residences of Savoy, won the WKF kickboxing masters world championship by beating the Spaniard Younes Fahmi Maouroudi on points after three rounds of two minutes each. The success, with the national anthem and Italy jersey and under the aegis of the World Kickboxing Federation, was achieved during the iconic The Night of King and Punch on Saturday evening in the ring of the Teatro Principe in Milan, where Luchino Visconti filmed “ Rocco and his brothers”. The rules allowed punches to be thrown above the waist and kicks to the legs as well. The weight limit was set at 67 kg. “It is a result that rewards the passion, but also the dedication and care that I put into sport, legal activity and life – commented Briamonte -. In my profession I had Franzo Grande Stevens as my teacher, in the ring I follow technicians who are legends such as Angelo Valente, Massimo Liberati, Lino Guaglianone. My opponent had a powerful right hand and so in the first two rounds I kept him at a distance by hitting him with kicks to the legs and stomach. With one of the latter, I sent him to the canvas in the second round (in the first I sent him skidding with a side kick to the chest). In the third round I closed the distance and hit him with punch combinations to the face, but I also hit him hard in the legs with kicks. I am very, very proud to have won this title, also for Italy which recently honored me with the title of Knight awarded by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella”. Briamonte was awarded by the president of Sap Fighting Style, the general of the Carabinieri (RO) Francesco Caffaro.

THE SEMI-FINALS

The semi-finals of the tournament reserved for 70 kg athletes then took place. The rules were K-1 style: punches, kicks and knees. The distance was three shots of three minutes each. The challenge between Francesco Maggio and the Spaniard Carlos Barbosa exceeded expectations due to its spectacular nature. Both athletes got off to a flying start, giving their all and looking for the solution before the limit. Francesco Maggio sent Carlos Barbosa to the mat, who got up and returned the favor. In the second round, Barbosa knocked Maggio out again and the referee stopped the fight. The punches with which Barbosa hit Maggio in the face were decisive, punches that Maggio visibly felt. The referee counted Maggio four times and this determined the end of the match. May was supported by the cheering of the audience (sold out theatre), wild. In the other semi-final of the tournament, Amin Ettayeb beat Sheriff Konteh on points. The two finalists of the Sap Fighting Style tournament will face each other on June 8th at the Reggia di Venaria during the Night of Kick and Punch 16. The winner will have a purse significantly higher than kickboxing standards. “The public liked the two semi-finals because they were balanced – explains Angelo Valente – and this is due to our matchmaking work. Francesco Maggio is very strong, he had a record of 41 victories and 3 defeats, and we found him an opponent at his height It was such a spectacular match that it could be used as a commercial for kickboxing.” Giovanni Maggio, Francesco’s father, doesn’t cause drama. He too fought in kickboxing and knows that defeat is part of the game: “Francesco will be in the gym training tomorrow morning. We already have the next fights planned. We would like to have a rematch with Carlos Barbosa”.

the other meetings

The other fights also lived up to expectations. They took place with the K-1 style rules over the distance of 3 rounds of 3 minutes each. Four athletes from Team Kick and Punch beat their opponents on points: Shakib El Kadimi beat Iker Kortabitarte. Lorenzo Del Gaudio defeated Darius Iancu. Lorenzo Mal winter prevailed over Gianluca Carone. Former Wako-Pro featherweight world champion Luca Grusovin beat Angel Chavdarov in a fight he thrilled with. “Chavdarov demonstrated that he is an athlete of the highest level – concludes Angelo Valente – and the challenge was a battle, especially in the last round. Grusovin is still one of the best in the world in his weight category.” The brothers Giorgio and Armen Petrosyan were also present at the event: their athlete Eddy Vinotti knocked out Alex Biasetto in the second round. In the first match of the evening, Alison Cucchi and Monica Castracane drew.
