Still without a coach, the HCAW baseball players have started preparing for next season. In addition to the regular training, they also attend kickboxing training every Tuesday evening. “A fun way to get fit. After that hour you come out of class completely sweating,” says catcher Julian Goins.
Last year, the HCAW selection came into contact with Nikita Kosterman of the Bonjasky Academy. She was an acquaintance of pitching coach Shane Gnade and got along well with the baseball players when she did an internship as a physio in Bussum. Then the proposal was made to give the baseball players some kickboxing training. She now gives a total of five training sessions to the North Hollanders.
“It’s not ideal. It would be good for the team if there was someone in charge and guiding us”
After the departure of Danny Rombley, the baseball players are still without a coach. HCAW was close to an agreement with coach Elton Koeiman of BSC Quick from Amersfoort, but that fell through at the last minute. “I would have liked him as a coach, but I think he chose to stay at Quick,” says Goins.

The 29-year-old catcher and his team will therefore have to wait for the appointment of a new coach. “It is always difficult to appoint a coach. You are fishing in a very small pond.”

Holland Series
Kevin Dirksen left HCAW this season. Delano Selassa, who was voted most valuable player of last season, will also miss a large part of the season because he is also playing abroad. “We are going to fight for first place. It is a great pity that they are gone. They were good for the group dynamics. Delano can join again during the play-offs. We have attracted a good replacement with Denzel Brooks, but it is always difficult to replace a player exactly.”
The major league baseball will start again in the spring.
