Kickboxer Ben Saddik almost feels like an Amsterdammer: “But my heart is in Antwerp”

Heavyweight kickboxer Jamal Ben Saddik will return to the ring next Saturday during Glory 81. His opponent is Benjamin Adegbuyi. “I hope he did his best. If so, it will be a spectacle,” Saddik looks ahead.

The Moroccan Belgian has been training at Mike’s Gym in Oostzaan for almost a year now. Under the well-known Amsterdam trainer Mike Passenier, he is preparing for his upcoming match. The two have been working together for almost a year now.

“I had just gone through a period in which I felt very bad,” Ben Saddik told NH Sport. “I had just gone through depression and didn’t even know where my gym bag was. I’ve always been charmed by Mike’s fighting style. He always goes for the KO. He’s very strict and you train hard under him. I needed someone who wins me over and I think only Mike can do that,” said Ben Saddik enthusiastically about the collaboration.

Amsterdam bluff vs. Belgian modesty

Jamal Ben Saddik is tranquility itself. Trainer Mike Passenier is just the opposite. “We Belgians are a bit reserved,” explains Ben Saddik. “Amsterdammers are just very direct.” In the report above, we asked both men if it clicked a bit.
