According to ratings authority Tina Nijkamp, Khalid & Sophie scored very poorly with the broadcast about one year of slavery apologies. “It scores far below what it normally scores.”
It was already somewhat predicted: the special broadcast of Khalid & Sophie from Middelburg, about the one year anniversary of Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s slavery apology, scored very poorly on NPO 1 last night. “Unfortunately, far below what the program normally scores : only 392,000 viewers,” writes Tina Nijkamp analysis channel.
“Don’t you want viewers?”
Khalid & Sophie is therefore ‘the most watched talk show of the day’, according to Tina. And according to her, that is a shame, because such a location during broadcasting entails a lot of extra costs. “You should think of 80,000-100,000 euros in total costs for such a one-off broadcast,” says the former channel boss of SBS 6. So extra costs.
The talk show topper of the day was Today Inside with 958 thousand viewers. Wilfred Genee expressed fierce criticism of Khalid & Sophie’s slavery special. “I was watching it and thought: don’t you want viewers or something? I watched for ten minutes and thought: if you don’t want any viewers, then you should do this.”
Heels on talk shows
Albert Verlinde keeps a low profile. He recently regretted his criticism of Khalid & Sophie, because he is also a musical director. He now says about this: “I produce musicals and of course you want those talk shows to pay attention to it. If I sit here and chop on those talk shows, they think: just figure it out.”
For that reason, Albert is now more positive about those two. “I think they’re great, especially in Middelburg,” he says sarcastically.
Wilfred: “You mean they have to stay there?”
Very niche
Media critic Victor Vlam is not surprised by the low viewing figures. “This episode of Khalid & Sophie is very niche. It would have been perfect for 11 p.m. on NPO 2. But primetime NPO 1? No,” he sneers at X.
Is slavery a niche then? “This discussion of it, yes. In any case, theme broadcasts of talk shows are not highly appreciated. Op1 also has had some bad experiences with it.”
Middelburg? Bizarre!
Victor thinks it is a waste of money that the show was made on location. “How bizarre that the broadcast came from Middelburg. In addition to the crew and presenters, all table guests (such as Noraly Beyer) came from the Randstad, except one from Hoorn.”
Middelburg plays a central role in the history of slavery. “But otherwise Middelburg was nothing more than a backdrop to mark that this was a very special broadcast of Khalid & Sophie.”
Broom through
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker thinks it’s incredible. “The NPO’s problem: they really have no idea what the general public (which finances the NPO) does and especially does not care about, or worse: the NPO is not interested in that,” he writes on remediation too early. Broom through.”
Are Khalid & Sophie really going to get the late time slot of Op1? “That show won’t happen,” Guido predicts.
