Khalid & Sophie is going off the air after all

What a rollercoaster: Khalid & Sophie disappears after all. However, BNNVARA and the editors of the program have been asked to develop a new show for the position of Op1.

AD media journalist Dennis Jansen turned the television world upside down yesterday with the scoop that the arrival of Eva Jinek on the eve of NPO 1 is final, that Khalid & Sophie will have to make way and that Op1 will stop. The NPO now confirms that all this is correct, but Khalid & Sophie will not take the place of Op1 after all.

Khalid & Sophie stops

What happens then? “The NPO has asked BNNVARA and the editorial staff of Khalid & Sophie to develop a completely new journalistic program for the late evening (Monday to Thursday) of NPO 1 in the autumn of 2024,” says a spokesperson for the public broadcaster.

And that means that Khalid & Sophie will disappear after all. It is unclear whether Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand will play a role in the new program, but friend and foe agree that Khalid is not actually suitable for a talk show. He may be forced to return to his old profession as a lawyer.

TV exit for Khalid?

Talk show icon Frits Barend thinks Khalid is really too small for this job. “Khalid and Sophie ask questions to which the answers are already filled in in advance. Khalid in particular has a hand in this. He is a very nice boy, but not a presenter,” he says A.D.

Angela de Jong has it in the same newspaper about ‘a lawyer who can still barely interview after three years’. Really devastating. And now he may have to make way. NPO’s video boss Remco van Leen: “The makers of Khalid & Sophie have proven themselves in the early evening and we look forward with confidence to their new plans.”

End of Op1

The end of Op1 is final. “Unfortunately, innovation sometimes also means that programs end. We will say goodbye to Op1 next summer after more than 4.5 years. We thank all presenters, makers and broadcasters who are or have been involved with Op1 for their enormous efforts in recent years and the broadcasts they will make.”

Remco is enthusiastic about the arrival of Eva, who can be seen from Monday to Thursday in the early evening. “Eva is a unique talent, a tremendous professional who absolutely belongs in public broadcasting. We are extremely happy with her return and look forward to her new program.”

What does Tina say?

How does Tina Nijkamp interpret this press release from the NPO? “The makers of Khalid & Sophie are coming up with a new program, according to this press release. Remarkable: it is not stated in black and white that Khalid and Sophie will present it. So they are not yet sure of their jobs.”

She concludes: “There is only talk about editors and makers… Very remarkable. So Khalid and Sophie haven’t secured their jobs yet?! The editors do. The content of the program will therefore also change: ‘new journalistic programme’.”
