The early talk shows Khalid & Sophie and HLF8 remain in the danger zone. Will these programs make it to Christmas? “Even repeats score even better!” says RTL Nieuws star Boyan Ephraim.
The viewing figures show that there is an abundance of talk shows in the Netherlands. In particular, the early talk shows Khalid & Sophie on NPO 1 and HLF8 on SBS 6 struggle to hold the viewer. What’s next? Will these programs make it to Christmas? RTL News presenter Boyan Ephraim wonders.
‘Can this continue in 2023?’
HLF8’s ratings are the lowest, but Khalid & Sophie’s are the most worrying. The program of Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand broadcasts on the most watched TV channel in the Netherlands, but ensures a significant dip in the viewing figures day in day out.
According to Boyan, it is really no longer tenable. “Only 272,000 viewers for Khalid & Sophie Wednesday. And that on the eve of the largest channel in the country. Even replays scored at least double last summer. I wonder if the program can continue in 2023…”
talk show fatigue
Boyan is not surprised that the viewing figures are so low. “I notice a talk show fatigue in myself anyway.”
More viewers suffer from that fatigue. It is therefore important for a talk show to distinguish itself from other programs. That is something that HLF8 in any case does not succeed in. That talk show is really thirteen-in-a-dozen TV, despite the fact that presenter Hélène Hendriks has sent entire epistles full of suggestions to producer Jeroen Pauw.
Jeroen responds
Jeroen, who also produces the talk show Op1, hopes that he can still save HLF8 from a slow viewership death. “Fortunately, everything is going well at Op1. At HLF8, an interesting new situation is emerging because we now have two presenters and soon even three,” he says in Veronica Superguide.
HLF8 is currently presented by Hélène Hendriks and Leonie ter Braak and it is the intention that Johnny de Mol will join them in November. “We have a plan for the new season and we’ll see if it catches on.”
