Khalid Kasem not only finds juice channels like Yvonne Coldeweijer’s bad news† He points out that Jaimie Vaes was rescued from an abusive relationship by the reports of Life of Yvonne.
Yvonne Coldeweijer is one of a kind prank of BNR Nieuwsradio kicked. Talitha Muusse, one of the presenters of the channel, has recorded a video in which it seems as if she is snorting cocaine. She sent that anonymously to Yvonne to see if she would post it. That is what she has done, after hearing both sides of the argument.
‘Waste of energy’
Talitha and BNR are now very proud of themselves, but is that justified? They have failed to ‘prove’ that Yvonne does not engage in in-depth journalism. “Yes, duh…”, tweets EenVandaag editor Marc Belinfante. “Unmasking Yvonne as a non-journalist… What is this crazy thing? She’s a gossip, everyone knows that.”
TV maker Maurice Ramaekers: “But one that is a lot more accurate than the paper gossips. (…) In my opinion, the whole ‘unmasking’ scheme was also pointless, a waste of energy, too easy and fueled by envy.”
Telegraaf presenter Wilson Boldewijn: “I think exactly the same Marc.”
No Tile for Talitha
Talitha had her say in front of almost every camera yesterday. In the evenings she was on the talk show Khalid & Kasem, but at the table they didn’t think her work was exactly Tegel-worthy. Journalist Mark Koster thinks it’s lame that Talitha decided to block Yvonne when she wanted to hear both sides by phone.
Mark: “Now I have to be strict: when Yvonne was calling you, you blocked her. Look, and then I think… Talitha, you should have kept your phone open then, because Yvonne wanted to ask you: ‘When did that happen? How often do you do that? Who else was there?’ So she didn’t get the chance to ask questions. I find that blameworthy.”
Khalid Kasem responds
Journalist Ronit Palache wondered in Khalid & Sophie ‘what journalism is actually making a solicitation film’. “I don’t know much about Yvonne Coldeweijer, but if we know one thing is that she is quite transparent about what her revenue model is and that she does not pretend to be more chic than she is.”
And what does host Khalid Kasem think? In April he had Jaimie Vaes at the table, who was rescued from an abusive relationship through a publication by Yvonne. “Jaimie did say one important thing: ‘Because the video was there, I came out of a very toxic relationship.’ So you could also say: it fulfills a need somewhere in this media landscape.”
Lots of support for Yvonne
Painfully enough for BNR and Talitha, Yvonne also received plenty of support in other programs. Rob Goossens in RTL Boulevard: “She actually did quite well. She said when she brought it, “I don’t know if it’s true, but it looks like this.” In the end it turns out not to be true, but she also added disclaimers.”
And Bram Moszkowicz (!) in Shownieuws: “She has a video and that video is the beginning of plausibility. I don’t want any more of it, but if you meet those criteria [die de rechter opstelde in de zaak Samantha Steenwijk] If you put it side by side like that, you’d think she’s pretty much complied with that.”
