The number two seeded tennis professional Karen Khachanov stopped the winning streak of young star Jakub Mensik in Doha/Qatar and celebrated his sixth tournament victory on the ATP tour.
The 27-year-old Russian won the final against the 18-year-old Czech 7:6 (14:12) and 6:4. With the triumph in Doha, Khachanov climbed from 17th to 15th in the world rankings on Monday.
Mensik, for his part, moves into the top 100 for the first time as the new number 87. In the quarterfinals he easily prevailed in two sets against the top-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev. He also threw veteran stars Andy Murray and Gael Monfils out of the competition.
Victory went to Italy at the WTA tournament in Dubai. The 26-year-old Jasmine Paolini secured her second tour title with a 4:6, 7:5, 7:5 against the Russian Anna Kalinskaya.
Kalinskaya made headlines with her smooth semi-final victory against the top seeded world number one Iga Swiatek from Poland.
