Kevin Volland praises “sensational” Union fans

Bundesliga soccer team 1. FC Union Berlin still has to wait for its first point in the Champions League. In the first home game, which was played in front of over 70,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium, a 2-0 lead wasn’t even enough to secure a draw. The voices on the “DAZN” microphone:

Kevin Volland (1. FC Union Berlin) …

… to the game: “We are currently conceding goals in which everything comes together. We invest a lot in the last 20 minutes and still have good opportunities. We can make it through the entire game, both in the first and second half . Then we get another goal like that in the last minute. There’s a lot going against us at the moment, but it’s not as if we’re not investing anything. We’re investing everything and trying to play forward even in difficult phases. We have opportunities, but We have to keep the result like we did in the first half.”

… to the opponent’s standard situations: “It’s always difficult. If they have two people out there, one has to come out of the back. So you only have one in the back and if there’s another one at the back, it’s difficult to defend. We wanted it in the second Do better at half time. I don’t know what happened with the second goal because I was warming up. It’s still a dream goal. We’ll concede a goal like that in the current phase. We have to invest a lot to be lucky get back on our side.”

… in support of the fans: “It was sensational. I’ve rarely seen or heard anything like that. Even in our current phase, it’s very positive and the motto is keep going and we’re behind you. We can be very grateful for that.”

Oliver Ruhnert (Managing Director Sports 1. FC Union Berlin) on the series of defeats (before the game): “We know that the games didn’t go well for us. But no one is happy about it. Nevertheless, we know what was missing. The good thing about it is that everyone knows that he has to bring a step more. We plan for a lot of things. We know that a change can take time, but we don’t plan for failures that end up being serious. Then everything comes together. We have to work our way out of it. September is over, now we hope for a better October.”

Rodrigo Zalazar (Sporting Braga) …

… to the game: “It was a really good game from both teams. We made two mistakes and against this team a mistake is 100 percent a goal. Our team did a very good job.”

… for the half-time speech: “We spoke to the coach and we had to believe in it. We scored a goal quickly, which was very important for us. In the end we won the game, so I’m happy.”

“DAZN” expert Tim Borowski on Union Berlin: “The coaching team is called upon to highlight the positives we saw today. We saw Union’s ability to suffer, which we are used to from them. Efficiency remains an issue. We saw numerous opportunities. Because of that They have to work, but faith comes back, even if today was very bitter.”
