Marvel director James Gunn reveals that the star of the new Christmas special he is directing Kevin Bacon doesn’t enjoy the magic of Christmas in the same way that Marvel’s trailer suggests. Bacon plays himself The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special – in the television special, which is part of the Marvel films’ narrative continuum with films and TV series.
In a television special The Guardians of the Galaxy Drax known from the movies (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) take Bacon across the galaxy as a gift to their group leader Star Lord (Chris Pratt), who has confessed to being a big fan of Bacon in the movies.
Director Gunn tells of Variety in the interview, that the real Bacon does not completely match the Bacon in the movie, at least when it comes to the Christmas party. Gunn himself loves Christmas and in his film Bacon is also scripted as the number one fan of Christmas.
– Kevin doesn’t like Christmas. That part was funny to me. Kevin appears on set in his cozy house, which is filled with huge inflatable decorations. It looks like Santa threw up all over Bacon’s house. It doesn’t look like Kevin Bacon’s home at all, Gunn says.
In the interview, Gunn praises Bacon effusively, saying that working with him is really effortless.
– Kevin is a very nice guy. He is really talented, really professional and overall really kind person. That part of the character is just like himself, says Gunn.
Bacon has previously starred in a Marvel movie X-Men: First Class (2011). At that time, he played the film’s villain, Sebastian Shaw.
Gunn says there has been no discussion at Marvel about whether there will be two Kevin Bacons roaming the cinematic universe. In the publishing house’s latest films, cartoon universes have been mixed together.
– Kevin Bacon is the best thing about the Christmas special. If that means Kevin Bacon will be a different character in later Marvel movies, that doesn’t matter. It’s not real. None of this is true. He was the perfect person for the role of Kevin Bacon. If we had given Kevin Bacon the role of the character To John Schneiderit wouldn’t have worked as well, Gunn says.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special premieres on the Disney+ streaming service on Friday, November 25.
