Kerttu Niskanen was the best Finn on Sunday, when women skied for the first time in the 50 km World Cup at Holmenkollen.

Niskanen was in the leading group of the race for a long time, but started falling behind at 35 kilometers.

In the end, the Finn was eighth in the race.

– It wasn’t an easy trip, I had to throw up. After that, the rest was a fight, Niskanen told Viaplay.

– I knew that it (the journey) would be hard, especially when we are going on a day off. Nice race, but it’s a shame that before the last two laps I had to empty myself, so to speak. The fifth round was really bad. It felt like there was no way out, Niskanen continued.

Niskanen only wanted to get as many points as possible for the overall World Cup standings. After the race, he leads the overall standings of standard distances ahead of Jessie Diggins of the United States.

The Finn already skis the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, in the traditional sprint race in Drammen and said that there is really no point in it, but he still plans to compete.

Norway’s Ragnhild Haga finally skied to win the Holmenkollen competition. Astrid Slind had to give way to him in the fight and crossed the finish line second. Diggins ended up third.

Remember the Finns Eveliina Piippo was the tenth. The ranking was the best of his career in the World Cup. After the race, Piippo told Viaplay that he felt special and that the last five kilometers were difficult for him.

Emmi Lämsä was the 22nd Rebecca Immonen 31st and Vilma Ryytty 32:s.
