Kermis Wervershoof gets an extra day and starts on Saturday

The fair in Wervershoof lasts for the first time this year for the first time a day longer than in previous years. This to the great satisfaction of both fairground operators and politicians in Medemblik. A pilot must show whether this is worth repeating.

The municipality of Medemblik comes up with this the initiative of the Preservation of the Dutch Fair Foundation. Politicians are also in favor of extending the fair by an extra day. “The fair now starts on a Sunday, but why not already on a Saturday?” Dieter Venema van Hart voor Medemblik told NH earlier. “Everything is ready and the party in the cafes has already started.”

Reason for an extra day are the expenses incurred. Fairground operators have to dig deeper into their pockets now that advertising and energy costs and staging fees have risen.

Not everyone enthusiastic

Yet not everyone is jumping for an extra day of fair. The catering industry in Wervershoof has already indicated that it is afraid that the atmosphere will look different. “Will Hart voor Medemblik put extra security at the cafes on Saturday, if the youth from outside makes a mess of it?”, says manager Antoinet Zwan of Hèt Café van Wervershoof.

The fair in Wervershoof lasts until Tuesday 22 August. The pilot will be evaluated afterwards to see whether starting on Saturday can be repeated.
