(askanews) – Our Lady of Tears It is the new Kento single produced by Mad Simon, to be released on Friday 27 June for Time 2 Rap. “How is it possible to believe in the lie that if this sea is ours, these people are not?”: With these direct rhymes Kento returns to denounce that silent massacre, which has been taking place for years in the central Mediterranean. First musical artist ever to take part in an entire research and rescue mission, specifically the one aboard the Ocean Viking ship by Sos Méditerranée in December 2024, Kento wanted to crystallize this experience in the words and images of Our Lady of Tears.

Embarked in the port of Syracuse, he was joined to the crew of the interception inflatable boats that first approach boats in difficulty and materially carry out the very first rescue operations and the trap on the mother ship. During the operation, which led to the rescue of 48 boys – almost all minors – drifting in international waters, the rescuers underwent an intimidating maneuver by the Libyan coast guard, by the notorious Ubari 660. The patrol boat – Italian gift to the Libyan coast guard – sadly known for having already shot on a Sicilian fisherman, injuring him, in the spring of 2021. The time has come for music and the party, with Kento and the young castaways who celebrated together, with a concert on the wider bridge of the ship, the joy of being alive and being together.
“Almost all the boys told me they had lived the terrible experience of the Libyan slavery camps,” says Kento. “A inhuman and unworthy misfortune of our time, for which the European policy of yesterday and today must take heavy responsibilities. Bringing my music to these courageous and unfortunate people was the most exciting moment of my career and, with this new single, I try to convey the same emotion to those who want to listen to it”.

In the lyrics, the words of Kento alternate with the voices of the boys recorded during the very first moments of the rescue, transposing all the emotions and sensations experienced during the 16 days of boarding into the rhymes. A rap ballad with a melancholy flavor packaged by Mad Simon, where arches and choirs support a delicate and continuous pathos. To embellish the song, the contribution to the arrangement of Claudio Bruno, former composer for gazelles, lightning, alpha and the musicians Gabriele Roia, Riccardo Roia and Tiziano Codoro.
