Keith Richards is still going strong. In New York he played one of the rare concerts with his all-star band X-Pensive Winos; just to point out the anniversary edition of his 1992 album “Main Offender” (in the neat box set). Also for the Rolling Stones he is currently the foreign minister. According to him, tour drummer Steve Jordan will become a full member of the band. You can experience that in Germany from June, because the Stones are going on tour.

“I’m really excited about the new dynamic now that Steve is in the band,” he said in an easy televised chat with talk show host Anthony Mason on CBS Sunday Morning. After it was confirmed once again that Richards had mutated into a non-smoker after 54 years with a fag in the corner of his mouth, the focus was on the band’s musical future
“It’s a kind of metamorphosis into something else. I worked with Mick and Steve last week and we came up with eight or nine new songs. That’s overwhelming by our standards. Our songwriting used to be like a desert.”

When asked when it’s easier and when it’s harder to find new material, Richards shrugged. “It’s a thing with the Muse,” Richards joked with a broad grin. “You can’t always find her address.”

The last Stones album “Blue & Lonesome” from 2015 was dedicated to blues cover songs. New own original material even appeared 17 years ago on “A Bigger Bang”. With the death of drummer Charlie Watts last August, a new chemistry had to be found within the band.

Singer Mick Jagger had already commented on the new Stones era in late summer 2021. “Of course it will be very difficult without Charlie. Because we already have pieces in which Charlie, of course, played.” The trick would now be to transfer the existing into new dimensions appropriately and with respect.

If Keith Richards has his way, the Rolling Stones are well on their way there.
