‘Keep singing old repertoire’

André Hazes jr. seems to have been quite shocked by his flop comeback. Now that his concert is not sold out, the singer announces that he will continue to sing his old repertoire.

Oh, oh, how painful it all is for André Hazes Jr. He thought he would make a great comeback and sell out several concerts, but after a month and a half not even one concert has been sold out. And are single? Not even in the Top 40! In addition to the Hazes fatigue, it will also play a role that the singer shouted that he no longer wants to sing folk songs.

André wants pop hits

André’s fans love folk music, but he wants to throw himself into pop music. “I thought: I think I’m doing a bit of old-timers music and that doesn’t quite suit me. (…) I said: guys, you know what it is, I’m a folk singer, but I actually want to be a pop singer and I want to make cool music,” he literally said at Beau.

And his big hit live then? “That is also a number that does not suit me at all. That’s not who I am,” he said.

He also no longer wants to sing folk songs to avoid comparison with his father. “When people say: ‘André Hazes is the best folk singer who has always lived and that will never happen again’, then you feel addressed, because you do your best yourself, you understand? And that hurts. You almost hate your father by saying things like that.”

‘Fans run away’

Critics therefore find it logical that André’s former fans, who do want to hear folk songs, no longer buy tickets. “That is something that made you known to the Dutch public and that gave you a lot of fans who really like your music,” said his former lyricist Edwin van Hoevelaak earlier in Shownieuws.

And hazologist Yvonne Coldeweijer said earlier: “If you like the real Hazes, you don’t have to come, because he won’t be singing folk music. At most his one hit Live. With fresh reluctance. Well, nice if you know as an audience that he hates that, but he keeps singing it.”

Still folk music

Now André announces in a video in his Instagram stories that he will sing his old repertoire again. “Hello everyone, I think it would be good if I record a video, because I notice that there is some confusion. I see that under my latest posts, but also private messages. About the repertoire that I will sing.”

He continues: “Ladies and gentlemen: I have never said that I will never sing my old repertoire again. I am very grateful to have those songs. That gave me everything. I carry the name André Hazes with great pride, so I will always sing my father’s music to honor him. That also brought me to where I am now.”

New music

It will be a mixed repertoire, says André. “I did say that I am very happy that I can make new music, which I think is very cool and that I am very grateful for that. I think the mix between those three things is really nice for me and will work out very well in the next twenty years.”

He concludes: “So don’t worry guys, I’ll just do everything and I’ll see you all in Ahoy.”

André will release a new pop song next month. It will premiere with – yawn – Frank Dane.
