Kazakh weightlifter Rahimov has to surrender gold from Rio 2016

Kazakh weightlifter Nijat Rahimov has lost the gold medal he won at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he has been banned for eight years for violating the doping rules. Rahimov is accused of replacing four urine samples during his preparation for the 2016 Games.

Rahimov, now 28, won the 2016 Olympic gold in the category under 77 kilograms with a total weight of 214 kilograms, a world record at the time.

The eight-year suspension came into effect retroactively in January of last year. All results between March 2016 and January 2021 have been deleted.
