The news of the death of Hertha President Kay Bernstein has caused consternation among the Berlin club and its supporters. “The entire club, its committees and employees are stunned and deeply dismayed,” wrote the second division team on Tuesday on the short message service X (formerly Twitter).
In the capital, many fans gathered at the Hertha office in Berlin on Tuesday and laid flowers. The emotions are palpable – and are reflected in the emotional words of those present.
Bernstein was popular among the supporters; he used to cheer on Hertha himself as a fan from the stands. In 2022 he was elected president and worked to strengthen the cohesion between the club and its supporters.
