Kaufmann leaves Stuttgart for DFL position – Wehrle regrets departure: “A lot has changed”

Tobias Kaufmann is moving from VfB Stuttgart to the German Football League and will be the new Director of Communications. The Swabian Bundesliga club and the DFL confirmed this on Thursday. The 47-year-old will take over the position from January 1, 2024. Kaufmann will succeed Philip Sagioglou (34) at the DFL.

“We very much regret that Tobias has decided to leave VfB,” said Stuttgart’s CEO Alexander Wehrle in a club statement: “Since his start, he has reorganized communication internally and externally with commitment, expertise and passion under challenging conditions His team has achieved and advanced a lot of things that we will continue.”

DFL Managing Director Steffen Merkel said: “Tobias Kaufmann is an accomplished communicator with a good feel for social and sports policy developments and a great passion for football. He is already familiar with many of the DFL’s key topics, not least thanks to his successful work in Stuttgart and Cologne and as a member of our club media commission.”
