The Brit Katrina Matthews completed the 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180.2 kilometers of cycling and 42.2 kilometers of running at the triathlon event at the Lausitzring in a fabulous time.
The 31-year-old Ironman Vice World Champion crossed the finish line after unofficially 7:31:57 hours. At the event, she beat the best time set by Chrissie Wellington in 2011 at the Challenge Roth (8:18:13) by more than three quarters of an hour. However, in the Lausitz, among other things, pacemakers were allowed, and it was also allowed to ride the bike in the slipstream, which led to the absolutely exceptional times.
The second athlete, Nicola Spirig, also stayed well under eight hours after swimming in Lake Senftenberg and cycling and running on the Lausitzring in bright sunshine. The 40-year-old Swiss crossed the finish line in unofficially 7:34:22 hours.
