Katja Schuurman loses a job because of her spicy cry for attention on Instagram. She was going to make a serious documentary, but the makers no longer like that.
Katja Schuurman is not comfortable that her number of followers on Instagram is stuck and that is why she desperately posted a photo without clothes last week. “My number of followers has been stuck like this for a while, so as a social experiment; curious if this helps,” said the presenter, who did a Britney Spearsje with it.
Katja under fire
Katja propagates that you should undress yourself to get more followers, but many people think that is a bad example for her young supporters and her own children. The TV fame therefore came under considerable fire. Is her number of followers more important than her self-esteem?
All the fuss will cost Katja dear, because she has to hand in a nice job. “I would do a documentary, a very serious documentary that I will not say anything about now, but I will not do it anymore. I got a call the day after this photo was posted and it was also in the news that they were very sorry,” she says in her podcast.
Job in trash
The collaboration was canceled at the last minute. “We were already discussing content with each other, but they still thought I shouldn’t do it, because my image or how I can come across because I post such a photo with ‘more followers’…”
Katja understands it a bit on the one hand. “My gut feeling already said: maybe you shouldn’t do this post, because actually my ambition for the coming years is to make much more committed documentaries and programs. I want to be more involved with that socially involved piece in the coming years.”
Number of followers
But why the hell is Katja so concerned about how many people follow her? Isn’t that a bit sad? “I honestly noticed that my number of followers was stuck. That is certainly not important for my happiness, but Instagram is a source of income and it also becomes a bit of a game.”
What then? “If you get a thousand followers every week and that is no longer the case, then you still have the idea that you are not doing something right and that you are losing a game.”
