It is known as the bicycle for yuppies and rich kids: the VanMoof. It is a popular bicycle brand, but curiously, the company’s service is notorious. Now the bicycle manufacturer seems to be on the edge of the abyss: no bicycles have been sold for two weeks and the company has now been granted a deferment of payment.

Angry customers

Customers are so concerned that VanMoof was forced to close its store on Amsterdam’s Mauritskade yesterday. “Customers are angry at the door and even call the police because they do not get their bicycle,” it writes AD. “The staff says they can’t help.”

An angry customer says in the newspaper: “I see that there are financial problems and then I think: I’ll pick it up. But you can’t even get in anymore. Shameless. I’m going to wait here until that door opens.”

Katya also angry

It now appears that Katja Schuurman is one of those angry customers. She dedicates one story on to her Instagram. “Eh, VanMoof… Since you can no longer be approached physically via the app and by telephone, and now also via this route…”

She is very concerned. “That bicycle for my daughter that we have been waiting for for ten months and that I have already paid for (I don’t even dare to write down how expensive it was..), and have therefore still not received… What is the plan now? What can I expect from you?”

To the shop

Katja has also considered coming to the store angry. “I wanted to come to the store tomorrow – the only way to get in touch with you for a long time – but I just read that that is no longer possible because you are closed.”

VanMoof says it will respond as soon as possible.

On the heel

Meanwhile, jokes are being made about the angry, ‘hip’ VanMoof customers. “Can someone give me a call when the VanMoof owners occupy the Dam? Perhaps the ME’s water cannon would be useful if you put oat milk instead of water in this case,” jokes journalist Rutger de Quay on Twitter.

De Speld star Maarten Hopman: “An angry group of Van Moof owners is now standing in front of the company’s headquarters. Demonstrations are being held, avocado pits are being thrown and the parking lot in front of the building has now been fitted with a herringbone floor.”

And RTL News journalist Daniël Verlaan: “Look out, they will soon throw avocados and oat cappus.”
