Ski jumper Katharina Althaus flew past the podium at the end of the year. In Ljubno, Slovenia, the Olympic runner-up from Oberstdorf had to be content with fifth place.
After a good first jump on 91.0 m, the 25-year-old only reached 84.5 m in the final, with 246.2 points she was five and a half meters short of third.
Overall World Cup winner Nika Kriznar (263.7 / 91.5 + 94.5) ensured a Slovenian home win and broke through the winning streak of Austrian Marita Kramer (259.9), who was leading after the first round.
Third was Kriznar’s compatriot Ema Klimec (257.2). Kramer, who recently won four times in a row, is still the undisputed leader in the overall World Cup ahead of Althaus.
For the first time, the knockout mode was used for the women in the first round, as it is known from the men’s Four Hills Tournament.
The other German jumpers were far behind. Pauline Heßler (Lauscha / 24th), Juliane Seyfarth (Ruhla / 25th) and Anna Rupprecht (Degenfeld / 27th) got into the points.
Sochi Olympic champion Carina Vogt (Degenfeld) clearly missed the second round in 48th place and thus remains without World Cup points in the current season. On New Year’s Day (4:00 p.m.) there is another individual competition in Ljubno.
The ski jumper has so far not been successful in her efforts to compete in her own Four Hills Tournament around the turn of the year or even to be integrated into the men’s tour.
The fact that there will be a New Year’s and New Year’s jumping for the first time is more of a consolation. “I’m a bit divided because it’s not a tour for us again,” Althaus had said.
