2022 is an exciting year for Kate Bush. 37 years after the release of “Running Up That Hill”, the song from the album “Hounds of Love” is at the top of the UK charts. Thanks to the mystery series “Stranger Things”, Kate Bush is the oldest interpreter with a number one hit, in an interview with BBC Radio 4 the 63-year-old describes the success as “unique”.
I mean, it’s such a great show, Bush says of Stranger Things. As previously reported, the Brit is a big fan of the fourth season. Originally she thought “Running Up That Hill” would only get some attention, but she was surprised at the extent. “It’s so exciting. It’s really quite shocking, isn’t it? The whole world has gone mad,” she says, laughing.
Plant flowers instead of singing
Normally, Bush avoids the media. She is not on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. She also doesn’t like giving interviews, the last one was six years ago. She lives a secluded life and is currently concentrating mainly on gardening.
With the interview, Bush wanted to thank her fans. Being able to reach a new audience through success is “wonderful”. “The thought of all these young people hearing this song for the first time and discovering it – I think it’s very special.”
“Like a Talisman”
Kate Bush also praised how “Running Up That Hill” was used in “Stranger Things.” “I thought, what a beautiful way to use the song in such a positive way. A bit like a talisman for Max,” she said, referring to the series heroine, who is literally saved by the song. The song can also be heard in the trailer for the second part of the fourth season.
