British singer Kate Bush has expressed surprise at her late and surprising chart success.

Her song “Running Up That Hill”, released in 1985, plays a leading role in the Netflix series “Stranger Things” and has been storming the charts since the current season’s release. “It’s incredible,” Bush said in an interview with the BBC on Wednesday. “It’s a great series. I figured the song would get some attention. But I could never have imagined something like that.”

According to Britain’s Official Charts Company in the UK, the 63-year-old set a record for the time it took for a song to reach the top spot in the UK charts from its release – 37 years. In Germany and also in the USA the song was in fourth place.

“It’s also a bit shocking,” said the very reclusive Bush. “The world has gone crazy.” But she was touched by how special the song had been incorporated into the “Stranger Things” series and that it played an important role, “a kind of talisman”, for one of the main characters. She is also happy that her music is now reaching “a completely new audience”. People would now hear her song who had never heard of her before.
