Fresh Eveliina Talvitien writing Kata– in the biography book, Souri, 54, also deals with his alcohol problem, which was part of his life earlier. It all started with work-related stress and endless deadlines.

The italicized passages are excerpts from the novelty book Kata.

Katariina’s mind began to fall apart. The alcohol smoothed and shrunk the contents of the head, even for a moment. With the help of alcohol, Katariina also looked for an escape route from the symbiotic pattern of the artist couple. The spouse had started to live too strongly through Katariina, and the partnership of two independent adults did not develop between the couple. Everyday life began to settle in like a boring routine without noticing. A few glasses a day was no longer enough. When the artist finished work at five in the evening, he opened a bottle of wine. By eleven o’clock he had it completely covered. This continued day after day.”

Souri’s spouse at the time suggested that he seek professional help for his alcohol problem. Souri says in the book that at first he didn’t want to accept help, but when the situation got bad, there was nothing else that could be done.

Help

Souri informed the publishing house that the third part of the trilogy will be delayed as a result of exhaustion and fatigue. Next, Souri went to a psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist quickly discovered a cluster of problems in addition to alcohol addiction. He concluded that he had bipolar disorder based on one appointment and immediately prescribed medication, even though Katariina assured that she was never manic or depressed. After hearing the latest diagnosis, the patient still felt a kind of pinched pride.

– I was diagnosed with an eating disorder when I was young, severe anxiety disorder in my thirties and borderline personality in my forties. Now I still have bipolar. It’s pretty rough.”

After the diagnoses, Souri wanted to change his lifestyle. He gave up alcohol and added exercise to his everyday life. He noticed the positive effects and did not go back to his old ways.

The biographical work Kata written by Evelina Talvitie will be published on March 2.
