Kapanen’s seasonal salary in the new contract is $3.2 million, which is exactly the same amount as in his previous contract.
Kapanen, who was a restricted free agent, had previously signed up for an arbitration hearing, where his new contract would have been resolved. However, processing is not needed now.
Last season was a disappointment for the soon-to-be 26-year-old attacker, as he scored 32 points in 79 matches. Especially the second half of the season was very difficult for Kapanen.
Kapanen moved to Pittsburgh in 2020 in a trade from Toronto.
Kapanen is originally a reservation for Pittsburgh, but he didn’t play his first NHL games with the club until the second season. He started his NHL career in Toronto in the 2015–16 season.
