Against Darmstadt
Karlsruher SC will have to do without one of their all-time favorites in the game against SV Darmstadt on Saturday (1 p.m.), but for a good reason: defender Marcel Franke will not be able to attend the game because he is donating stem cells on Thursday. It is the first retirement of the season for the 29-year-old.
“During my time in Fürth, I had my typecast. Then, three months ago, I got a call that I was in a close circle for a potential stem cell donation,” Franke is quoted as saying in a club statement. As it is said, the native of Dresden, after it was clear that he was the right donor, contacted KSC sports director Oliver Kreuzer and the coaching team.
“It was clear to all of us that we would definitely do it. It’s a good feeling to hopefully be able to save someone’s life. Of course, I sometimes do without a game, ”said Franke. The defender switched to KSC in the summer after his contract with Hannover 96 ended, where he is a regular and has so far collected a total of 1,051 minutes in all twelve competitive games. Within the team, only Marvin Wanitzek (29) was on the field longer (for overview). After the donation, Franke wants to be back in training next Monday.
We have to do without Marcel Franke at the weekend. But for a reason that is more than important: Our central defender donates stem cells on Thursday and thus has the opportunity to possibly save a life!
