FOOTBALL – Karlo Meppelink has been chosen as amateur trainer for the 2021/2022 season in the Northern Netherlands by the Dutch Football Oefenmeesters Union (VVON). The 52-year-old Hoogevener receives the prize for his performance as a coach of VKW from Westerbork in the First Division F. He also works as a youth trainer at FC Emmen.
Meppelink was one of the three trainers who were nominated from the Northern District of amateur football. In the election he beat Dick Krommenhoek from Olde Veste ’54 from Steenwijk and Steven Wuestenenk from Be Quick 1887 from Groningen. Due to the election, Meppelink can call itself the best amateur trainer in the Northern Netherlands.
This season, VKW is still fully participating in the battle for the championship in the First Division F. With three games to play, the Meppelink team is two points ahead of Hoogezand and the duel with the Groningers is scheduled for the last round of the competition.
The VVON praises Meppelink for its positive approach to football. He focuses on what goes well in his team and his team often looks for the football solution in the matches. He also mainly uses players from his own youth at VKW and has made several players debut in the first team this season.
Meppelink is in his third and last season with VKW. Next season he will transfer to VV Staphorst, which plays in the Third Division.
