Spanish designer Archie M. Alled-Martinez will create a collection for Karl Lagerfeld that defies conventional gender norms. The collaboration serves to reinterpret the Karl Lagerfeld brand through the eyes of the queer community, the company announced on Friday.
Alled-Martinez, who runs his eponymous label as creative director, sees the collaboration as a homage to Karl Lagerfeld himself, who made a significant contribution to Alled-Martinez’s understanding of fashion. “Karl is someone who influenced me a lot. The collection is a tribute to him, and therefore to fashion itself.” Pier Paolo Righi, managing director at Karl Lagerfeld, also emphasizes the queer component, which will play a decisive role in the creation of the capsule collection. The collection will be created in close collaboration with Carine Roitfeld, Style Advisor at Karl Lagerfeld and Design Director Hun Kim.
Alled-Martinez, who completed his Masters in Fashion Knitwear at Central Saint Martins College, London in 2018, was awarded the LVMH Graduate Prize for his graduate collection. After working for Givenchy for a year, he will present his first own collection at SS22 men’s fashion week in Paris in 2020. The capsule collection with Karl Lagerfeld is scheduled to launch in June 2022 and will include ready-to-wear pieces as well as accessories. Details about the collection will be released in the coming months.
