Karl Geiger wins jumping in Titisee-Neustadt – ski jumping – winter sports

Geiger takes yellow from Kobayashi

With his victory, Geiger takes over the yellow jersey in the World Cup rankings again. The 28-year-old said he didn’t know exactly why it went so well. “Both jumps were very good”, he said, and that he has now made friends again with the once unloved hill.

Schmid with the best cards for the Olympics

In addition to victory and podium places, Saturday (January 22, 2022) was also about the last starting places for the Olympic team. Two tickets to Beijing were still available. Constantin Schmid, who came ninth with his jumps of 131.5 and 132 meters, recommended himself for one of the two.

Severin Freund (126.5/129 meters) showed a solid competition, but was only 17th. The 33-year-old Bavarian was still missing a place in the top 15 to fully meet the Olympic standard.

“The competition annoys me even more than the result, because I had a better jump yesterday in the qualification”said friend. Immediately after jumping, he ticked off the Olympics and set himself the ski flying World Championships as his new goal.

Pius Paschke was out of the race early on. The 31-year-old from WSV Kiefersfelden has been in a low form since the tour and did not make it into the second round in 33rd place.

Decision on Olympic tickets on Sunday

National coach Stefan Horngacher wants to announce on Sunday who will be included in the Olympic team alongside the seeded Geiger, Eisenbichler and Leyhe. Andreas Wellinger is also among the candidates.

Friday scores World Cup points – Lisso with half the norm

Richard Freitag scored his first World Cup points in over a year. The three-time team world champion, who won one of his eight World Cup victories in Titisee-Neustadt four years ago, started in the national group.

He finished 21st with jumps of 129 and 130 meters. Freitag had last participated in a World Cup competition in the 2021 New Year’s competition. During this season he was temporarily relegated to the third-rate FIS Cup.

Even better from the national group was Justin Lisso. The 22-year-old Thuringian jumped 129.5 and 134 meters and would have even fulfilled half a standard as 11th. Philipp Raimund (122 meters/124 meters), who was a year younger, also scored World Cup points in 27th place. Martin Hamann did not make it to the final.
