In his column for sports.de, a satisfied Karl Geiger looks back at the first ski flight World Cup of the season. In addition, the DSV Adler explains why the upcoming World Cup weekend in the Sauerland has a very special charm.
I did shopping in the morning, my daughter Luisa shade and worked something in the office. The ski flight weekend is behind me. They were great days with an enthusiastic audience. Nice competitions, good jumps were seen and all without falling in the competition field. The event is over, the participating nations left and the streets and alleys in Oberstdorf have become a little quieter.
The calm has also returned to me and private and training alternate continuously. I think back to flying. The Heini Klopfer hill in Oberstdorf is always a special challenge for me; This time I mastered her well.
Jumps over 220 meters, I was very happy, so often I don’t succeed. The way there also strengthened me. On the first day of the competition, it was primarily the jumps that sat on the point and that I succeeded powerfully, I made meters on the second day of the competition. The results have confirmed my current level of performance and I am satisfied with places 10 and 11.
I succeeded in a row in the last World Cups, so to speak, and that is a good basis for subtleties in training, so to speak, in order to be well prepared for the last highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski World Cup in Trondheim.
The next competition is also a home game of a special kind; On the one hand, we jump from the largest large hill in the World Cup, for which ski jumping in Oberstdorf was of course good preparation, on the other hand, Willingen is known like no other place for an intense background noise.
A weekend is celebrated around the ski jump in the upland, especially by guests who are otherwise not to be found on the ski jumps of Europe. We ski jumpers often have jumping with parties, but only a party with jumping and that’s just in Willingen!
The German Ski Association starts with the national group with which it is possible to have other jumpers compete in addition to the core team of the World Cup, which will otherwise compete in the COC competition. Ten starters will take the trip to Willingen and keep the German flag up.
The voltage sheet will completely build up again at the latest on the way.
I’m really looking forward to jumping, I’m looking forward to Willingen!
Kind regards
Karl
