Karin and Zula visit all 53 dolmens: ‘They have something mystical’

In eleven days time along all public dolmens in Drenthe and Groningen. Karin Olfert (29) from Balloërveld takes on this challenge. But she does not do this alone, because her horse Zula will assist her during the more than 300 kilometer long journey.

The choice for this challenge did not come entirely out of the blue, because Olfert has been working at their Hunebed Center in Borger for several years. “I was at work and suddenly thought: I don’t have any holiday plans yet, let me go on a trek with my horse. Then suddenly it crossed my mind, why not past all the dolmens? You must have something to do during your holiday.”

For her, dolmens have something mystical about them. “As a child, my parents already took them to dolmens. It’s a kind of journey back in time. And it’s just a nice clear goal. I like to get on my horse and ride somewhere.”

“That is how the goal arose to tick them all off. And of course you also belong to the club of the hunebedden (a exclusive club of which you can become a member if you have visited all the dolmens in the Netherlands, ed.), who wouldn’t want that,” says Karin.
