Karen Heerschop acting mayor of Castricum

The province of North Holland has announced in a press release that Karen Heerschop has been appointed acting mayor of the municipality of Castricum by the King’s Commissioner.

Karen Heerschop (1960) replaces current mayor Toon Mans, who will step down on 1 June and become chairman of the Twijs foundation. Until the procedure for a new mayor has been completed, Heerschop will remain acting mayor. This is expected to be around the end of March 2024.

“Karen Heerschop (1960) is currently an independent entrepreneur and in that capacity fulfills various functions as chairman of two participation platforms for Staatsbosbeheer, supervisor of reflection conversations and ceremony speaker. In 2022 she was informateur and formateur for coalition formation in the municipality of Heemskerk. Before that she was acting mayor of the municipality of Beemster (between 2020-2022) and interim director and steward of the Goois Nature Reserve (2017-2019). Previously, she was acting mayor of Zeevang for 6 years and acting mayor of Wijdemeren for 1 year. councilor in the municipality of Hilversum, where she later (2001 – 2006) also served as alderman.”
