Ex-hockey player Jere Karalahti, 50, again demanded to be released from pretrial detention. This time, he submitted a claim to the Helsinki Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal did not agree to the man’s demand, he says Ilta-Sanomat.

Karalahti was imprisoned at the beginning of October for the most probable reasons, suspected of a serious drug crime. After that, he has demanded release from the district court, which has not agreed to the request, however.

Karalahti’s relatives have said that the man’s communication has been severely restricted during pretrial detention. The father told Iltalehti that he has only been able to keep in touch with Karalahti, who is in Vantaa prison, via e-mail.

Karalahti is one of the suspects in a large drug ring that the Helsinki police are investigating.

The suspected crimes in Karalahti took place between June 1 and September 29. The end date of the suspected crime is the date the police arrested the man.

The police have been exceptionally tight-lipped about the criminal investigation.

Karalahti fought just before the arrest in the F2F boxing night at the Helsinki Ice Hall. He lost the match to the ex-bodybuilder Matias Niemea against.
