One started by user “Kim Pete”. Change.org petition to remove Kanye West from the Coachella program has already received more than 28,000 signatures since March 17th – and has been gaining more and more support over the past few days.
“Lately he’s even threatened others with physical violence”
The petition, titled “Remove Kanye from Coachella!” reads: “For over a year we have witnessed Kanye harassing, manipulating and hurting Kim, Pete and others. No one seems to want to defy him, and he fires at those who do as well. Recently, he has even threatened others with physical violence. It’s ridiculous that he’s just allowed to do that. Coachella (and other brands that still work with him) should be ashamed of themselves and stop giving him a platform.”
The enfant terrible bites on granite
The last impetus for the cancellation request was probably West’s racist hostility to Trevor Noah, which was widespread on Instagram. In advance, the cabaret artist and presenter Noah had commented on the rapper’s dealings with his wife Kim Kardashian in an episode of the “Daily Show” and described it as “terrifying”. Earlier this month, West released an animated video for his latest single, “Eazy.” In it, a dummy of the 44-year-old abducts and abuses comedian Pete Davidson – Kardashian’s current boyfriend. West’s behavior is already having its first consequences: Instagram has taken the musician’s profile offline, at least temporarily; only yesterday it became public that the Grammys canceled a performance by the self-proclaimed “Yeezus”.
West’s paranoid demeanor
The Coachella Festival takes place April 15-17 and April 22-24 in Indio, California. Headliners include Kanye West, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles. Even before West’s outbursts to Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, there was controversy surrounding his performance. So he had threatened to cancel his concert. Crazy reason: Billie Eilish had helped a fan who was short of breath during a show by interrupting her gig for a few minutes. “I won’t move on until people are better,” Eilish said at the time. West took that as an insult to Travis Scott: “Trav will be with me at Coachella but now Billie has to apologize before I perform,” he wrote in a caption.
Originally scheduled to co-headline Coachella, Travis Scott was pulled from the program after a show at Astroworld caused a stampede that killed ten and injured hundreds. The musician is accused of ignoring desperate calls from fans and continuing his concert even after people had died.
